From a career in music production, Miguel found his way to the meetings and events industry from a close friend who saw more than a proactive attitude and jack-of-all-trades skill set. Two years of broad and diverse event and incentive programme experience in Portugal gave him a good taste of the job and was the stepping stone for a swift move to London, where he completed the University of Westminster’s Masters Degree programme in Conference and Event Management in 2009.
He is an active member of MPI’s United Kingdom and Ireland chapter, currently serving on the board of directors. In January 2008, Miguel completed the Strategic Planning and Management of Conferences and Events course where he obtained the Certified Diversity Meeting Professional (CDMP) certification from the International Association of Hispanic Meeting Professionals.
Miguel volunteered at the 2008 MPI European Meetings & Events Conference in London where he met SYNAXIS partners Charles Massey and Joseph Chan. He initially joined the team as an intern, managing several key conferences and events from concept to completion. This led to a full time position and the opening of our London office in 2009. Since then he has succesfully managed projects in the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, and Hungary as well as serving as lead project manager on several of our key North American conferences..
Miguel was the inaugural recipient of the IMEX-MPI Foundation Student Scholarship Award in 2009, marking the newly consummated global partnership between IMEX and the MPI Foundation, a reflection of both organisations’ commitment to supporting young talent and providing opportunities for personal and professional development for future industry leaders.
Based in London, Miguel is charged with the overall management of our European operations, responsible for meeting and event management and business development, and is a frequent speaker at industry events.
